Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Monday, said, Rs 1 lakh crore is required to complete the ongoing projects in the state, and Rs 50,000 crore for the completion of Upper Krishna project.

After inaugurating the newly-constructed Beereshwara Channakeshwara (Varakodappa) temple at Kodikoppalu village, Basaralu hobli, in the taluk, on Monday, he said, the government has accorded priority to irrigation projects and has set aside a staggering Rs 14,000 crore. “No other government had allocated such huge funds for irrigation. The state is experiencing its worst drought since three years, but measures have been taken to ensure that there is no drinking water and fodder shortage,” he said.

The CM said, the government is planning to implement a Flood Irrigation Project, in an effort to fill the lakes in villages of Nagamangala and Channapatna taluk, which are categorised as dryland. “Plans have been chalked out to utilise the additional water from Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) to fill the lakes after it reaches the 100-ft mark. Approval will be given to upgrade the Visvesvaraya Canal,” Siddaramaiah said.

Heightened security

Following the security breach during the chief minister’s visit to Malavalli recently, the police department had made elaborate security arrangements, deploying additional personnel at the venue to ensure that no untoward incident happened.

A few BJP workers and DSS leaders, who staged a protest before the programme, were arrested. More than 10 persons, including BJP leader Shivakumar Aradhya, DSS leader Venkatagiriaiah were taken into custody.

It may be mentioned that BJP workers had waylaid the CM’s entourage during his visit to Malavalli recently. Following which, the CM had taken Mandya SP Sudhir Kumar Reddy to task in public.

Rebel MLAs to Cong

Speaking to reporters later, Siddaramaiah said, JD(S) rebel MLAs N Chaluvarayaswamy, Zameer Ahmed and others will be inducted into Congress soon.

“A meeting will be held with the party leaders and a decision will be taken in this regard,” he added.
