Corporator's husband accused of cheating, flees

The husband of a woman corporator has gone missing after the Magadi Road police registered a cheating case against him on Sunday.

“Sridhar, a cable operator and husband of Shilpa, a corporator (Ward 105) of Agrahara Dasarahalli, is involved in a Rs 13-lakh cheating case. He absconded as the police went to his house to arrest him,” Magadi Road police inspector Niranjan Kumar told DH.

The police registered the cheating case based on a complaint filed by Maruti, a member of All Digital, a federation of cable operators, including nine groups from Peenya Dasarahalli, Jayanagar, Magadi Road, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar and Yeshwantpur. Maruti is a registered member of Hathway, another cable services provider.

The suspect had collected money from Maruti by promising to supply cable infrastructure, including set-top boxes and services. However, he did not keep his promise. “He neither provided the service nor returned the money. Hence, the police booked him under IPC Section 420 (cheating),” the inspector added.

Speaking to the media, Sridhar denied the allegations against him. “I have provided services for the money given by Maruti. He was with All Digital and services were provided as per the All Digital terms and conditions. Now, he has moved to Hathway and wants money,” he claimed.
