The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical and dental courses was held smoothly in the city on Sunday, barring an incident of a few candidates from outside the city missing the test, being unable to locate the centres.

Those who attempted the test found the papers tough, particularly Physics and Chemistry. Six candidates were not allowed to write the examination at the Army Public School on Kamaraj Road, as they arrived at the centre 15 minutes late. Most of them were from outside Bengaluru, from places such as Ballari, Hassan and Tumakuru. Commotion prevailed as parents argued with the security guards and tried to send their children inside. Although some of them were allowed inside the gate, they were sent back after the commotion subsided.

Candidates were frisked and were made to remove accessories like watches, earrings, nose studs, anklets and shoes. Students, who did not follow the dress code and wore full-sleeve shirts, had their sleeves cut before entering the exam hall. However, students, who did not have Aadhaar cards, were allowed to enter using their college identity cards.

The test had 180 questions on Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology and Botany), which have to be answered in three hours. Every right answer earns the candidate four marks and one mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Kinjal Govil from Deeksha PU college said the paper was moderately easy. “Time was enough and the questions were from within the syllabus, but there were a few which I found difficult to solve.” Gurudev P G from Koppal said he found Biology paper tough, but Physics and Chemistry were alright.

BASE coaching centre said the paper was moderately easy and the questions were from within the NCERT syllabus, with a few questions requiring higher order thinking.

CBSE, which conducts the exam, will release the answer key for the test on their website, after which time will be given to students to file objections.
