Rain across K'taka brings respite from heat

Heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds and thunder lashed several parts of the state on Saturday.

Heavy rain lashed Hubballi and its surrounding areas for nearly an hour on Saturday afternoon. The rain was accompanied by a thunderstorm and hailstones. Due to the heavy rain, most of the low-lying areas were inundated. Many roads in the city witnessed traffic jams as the rainwater flowed onto the roads.


Dharwad city received moderate rain, while the rainfall was heavy on the outskirts of the city, including surrounding villages. The rain brought some respite for farmers as they can now start preparing their fields for the monsoon sowing.

Cloudy skies prevailed in parts of Belagavi district, while parts of Athani taluk received light showers.  Belagavi city witnessed light showers along with thunder. Parts of Khanapur taluk received heavy rain accompanied by lightning. A four-year-old boy was killed after the wall of his house collapsed due to rain at Gundenatti village in the taluk. The deceased, Jyotiba Ravi Belagavi, was trapped in the rubble and succumbed on the way to the hospital. 


Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Koppal town for one hour in the evening. Shahabad and Aland Road in Kalaburagi district witnessed light drizzle.

Kampli hobli in Ballari district received rain for more than 30 minutes. Rain coupled with thunder lashed Gadag town as well as parts of Gadag taluk. There were reports of
widespread rain Chitradurga taluk also.

Heavy rain, coupled with gusty wind and lightning, lashed Chikkamagaluru and surrounding areas for more than one-and-half-hours. The roofs of a few houses in Uppalli layout and Shankarapura were blown away and rainwater entered the houses. Several trees were uprooted on Basavanahalli Road and drains in low-lying areas were inundated. Power supply was disrupted in the region. Aldoor, Vastare, Balehonnur, Mudigere, Kalasa and Kadur too experienced rainfall. Venkatesh (40) was struck dead by lightning at Kardikan in the district.
It rained heavily in several parts of Shivamogga district. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Thirthahalli, Sagar and Hosanagar received a good spell of rain in the evening. Power supply was disrupted in several parts of the district due to tree fall. Shikaripur and Sorab also witnessed moderate rains.

Heavy downpour accompanied by hailstones, thunder and lighting threw normal life out of gear in many parts of Hassan district. Many trees and electric poles were uprooted, leading to traffic jams and disruption in power supply in Hassan city. Parts of Hassan taluk, Belur, Halebid, and Javagal received good rainfall.
