Biddatanda Cup: Anjaparavanda, Palaganda enter pre-quarters

Five-time champions Palaganda stayed true to their reputation with a comprehensive 5-0 victory against Bayavanda and book a place in last-16 round in Kodava family hockey tournament for Biddatanda Cup.

In the last 32-round match played at General K S Thimayya Stadium at Cheriyaparambu on Saturday, the fancied Palaganda steamrolled Bayavanda in a one-sided affair. Prajwal Belliappa sounded the board twice while Pradhan Cariappa, Kalappa and Prasheel scored a goal apiece.

In the other match played at the venue, Anjaparavanda managed to secure a 1-0 win against the fighting Areyada and advance into pre-quarters. Four other teams made it to the last 16 round on Saturday.

Kulletira rode on a brace by Subham Chittiappa to see off Kattera and advance further in the torunament. In the other match played on Saturday, Paradanda thrashed Chendira 5-0. Muthanna scored twice while Prajwal, Ayyappa and Monnappa netted a goal apiece for Paradanda. Kongettira blanked Bollanda 2-0. Mekerira recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kandanda. Baleyada staved off a stiff challenge by Kademada 5-2 via tie-breaker.
