Last Updated 29 April 2017, 19:52 IST

The Supreme Court has acquitted six persons accused of murdering Tamil Nadu-based Hindu Munnani president Rajagopalan in 1994.

In 2011, a TADA court at Tirunelveli had held Sahul Hameed, Raja Hussain, Zubeir, Zakir Hussain, Azeez and Seeni Nainar Mohammed guilty of killing Rajagopalan on October 10, 1994, in front of his house in Madurai.

A bench of Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Rohinton Fali Nariman concluded that the proceedings initiated against the accused appellants under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) were vitiated.  Besides, their confessions were involuntary.
