JOIN USThe online lottery process for 1.29 lakh seats under the Right to Education (RTE) Act was conducted in the city on Friday. The state government has added a substantial number of seats under the RTE quota this time compared to 1.07 lakh last year. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait told reporters on Friday that in all, 2,10,661 applications were received this academic year. Of these, 2.2 lakh applications have been considered for the lottery process.
While the first list will include schools in the child’s neighbourhood, the second list will consist of schools that are not in the vicinity. For the first time, the government has made LKG and Class 1 the entry level following approval from the high court.
Details on the schools which the students have been allotted would be sent through text messages by Saturday to parents while the final date for admission to these schools would be May 10.
Sait said that this year, 46 CBSE and ICSE Schools have approached the high court stating that they would not provide RTE quota seats.
Citing several issues with regard to online submission of applications, Sait said that over 13,000 complaints were received online and have been addressed. Besides, the department received 478 written complaints and over 250 oral complaints regarding glitches.
For parents who had applied for RTE seats without Aadhaar cards, unique ID numbers were given and physical verification was conducted. However, if parents fail to avail of Aadhaar cards at the time of admission for reasons that include rejection of application, the candidate would lose the RTE seat.
Under the special category which includes children who are orphaned and disabled and for transgender children and others, 5,008 applications were received and 312 have been accepted.
Excess Fee
For the first time, the department of primary education will issue an order asking schools not to charge extra fee on the pretext of providing books, uniforms or other facilities to children. Ajay Seth, principal secretary, department of primary and secondary education said that violating these norms would invite a fine of around Rs 10 lakh.
PU results
Sait said II PU results will be announced on May 10. SSLC results would be announced a day or two after this.
