DC tells officers to prevent increase in road accidents

Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza directed the officials to check increase in road accidents and fatality in the district.

Speaking at the RTA meeting on Thursday, he said that there is value for every life. “Recently, a child was killed in an accident near Hosakote. The officials should visit schools and create awareness about traffic rules. There is need to give priority to safety of schoolchildren. The officials will be held responsible if any accident occurs due to unscientific road humps,” he warned.

The DC also said that paint on the road divider at Shirangala has been erased and directed the officials to conduct a survey on unscientific road humps in the district.

SP P Rajendra Prasad said that 45 persons have lost lives in road accidents in 2014. “The number of victims increased to 85 in 2015 and 115 in 2016. All the departments should work in coordination. There has been increase in cases of drunken driving. Licences of people involved in drunken driving will be suspended for three months,” he warned.

“The condition of Madikeri-Siddapura road is pathetic. The branches of the trees on the stretch should be axed before the onset of monsoon. The Police Department will install signboards on roads. The poor who have put up tents beside the road should be shifted,” the SP said.
