10 mm rain in city, weatherman predicts showers for next two days

Several parts of the city experienced thunder showers on Monday evening, bringing relief to the people from the blistering heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunder showers over the next two days. IMD Bengaluru, in-charge director Sundar M Metri told DH that the trough over north Telanagana and interior Karnataka, towards Konkan, is bringing rainfall. This will continue for the next two days.

 The city received 10 mm rain till 5.30 pm while HAL airport recorded 15 mm of rainfall. No rain was recorded till 5.30 pm at Kempegowda International Airport. On Sunday, the city received 3.5 mm of rain while HAL and KIAL experienced .5 and 2.8 mm of rainfall respectively.

The evening showers have brought down the temperatures. The city on Monday recorded a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius against 36.2 degrees Celsius reported on Sunday.

The sudden surge in wind, and thunder showers resulted in uprooting of trees at more than 20 places. In Koramangala alone, at least, eight trees were uprooted and branches of several trees were severed. Similarly, tree fall cases were reported at Kudlu Gate near HSR Layout, Indiranagar, Halasuru Cambridge Layout, Rajarajeswari Nagar, ITPL, HAL 2nd Stage, near Delta Hospital on Gandhi Bazar Main Road, Jeevanbimanagar, Mathikere and at Old Airport Road near Leela Palace.

Traffic jams were reported at Dairy Circle Underpass towards Mico Junction, BTM Layout 29th Main Junction, Mehkri Circle, Lingarajapuram, Fraser Town, Hosur Road, and other places in the city.
