Its chief Mohan Bhagwat has reiterated that people of the country want a temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram and attacked the minority leadership for creating hurdles in Ayodhya issue.
Bhagwat, speaking at a congregation of Hindus on religious conversion, in Deoghar of Jharkhand on Tuesday, said that Muslims and Christians are not opposed to the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.
The long-pending dispute is before the Supreme Court, which had recently refused to expedite its hearing. “Muslims and Christians are not opposed to the temple construction. But people who are doing politics at their behest, or who indulge in hooliganism and hardliners get upset,” Bhagwat reportedly said. He was of the view that to move together is the characteristic of Hindustan.
Renewed demand
The RSS chief’s renewed call for construction of the temple – his second public statement in favour of it in more than a year – comes close on the heels of him voicing support for another controversial Hindutva agenda.
On Sunday, Bhagwat had demanded a national law banning cow slaughter. But had warned vigilante groups against taking law in their hands in the name of protecting the cow.
