Rain brings cheer in several dists

Showers brought down temperatures at several places, much to the delight of residents on Tuesday.

Heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed parts of Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district. Other parts of Kodagu district received heavy rainfall in the evening.

Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Napoklu, Kakkabbe, Nelaji, Cheriyaparambu, Suntikoppa, Bhagamandala and Talacauvery received showers. The rain filled up small water bodies in the region. Several houses in parts of Mandya and Hassan districts were damaged due to heavy showers on Monday night and Tuesday.

Eight houses were damaged at Chenya village in KR Pet taluk, Mandya. Four houses were damaged in Channahalli, Srirangapatna taluk on Monday night. KR Pet town and adjoining villages received hailstorms. In Hassan district, Arkalgud town and adjoining villages received rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the evening. Walls of houses in Housing Board Colony and Kellur village, Arkalgud taluk were damaged.

Roofs of houses in Hullangala Koppal, Chikkagavanahalli were also damaged. A house in Baichanahalli was damaged after a coconut tree fell on it. Hassan and Sakleshpur town also received good rain on Tuesday.

Heavy showers accompanied by strong wind and lightning lashed the steel town of Bhadravathi, Shivamogga district for about 40 minutes. Trees were uprooted at several places in the town, damaging several houses. More than 50 electricity poles came down, disrupting power supply.

Five houses were damaged at Ujjanipura in the town. Shikaripur, Sagar, Hosanagar and Thirthahalli in the district received moderate rains.

Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed Subrahmanya and surrounding areas in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday. Some electric poles were uprooted at Kulkunda and Nettana disrupting the supply of electricity. Parts of Tarikere in Chikkamagaluru also received rainfall.

Showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Hirekerur in Haveri district. Falling of trees caused inconvenience to the residents. Traffic was affected due to a tree fall at Shankar Rao Circle in the town.
