KPSC scam: unsuccessful candidates move apex court for CBI probe

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Karnataka government on a petition filed by candidates who want a CBI enquiry into the alleged irregularities in the KPSC appointments pertaining to 1998, 1999 and 2004 batches.

A bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud sought the state government’s response to the petition filed by five unsuccessful candidates through advocate Anish R Shah. The court decided to tag the instant petition with a batch of petitions filed earlier.

On December 14, 2016, the apex court had stayed a ruling of the Karnataka High Court that “unsettled” the appointments of administrative officers of 1998, 1999 and 2004 batches.

The court had then allowed the petition made by some of the 393 officers who had
been working in the state administration for the past 10 years.

Revised list

The revised list was prepared by the KPSC on the basis of a CID report that showed large-scale bungling in the recruitment process. On June 21, 2016, the high court, ordered revising the list, unsettling those who were working for 10 years.
