The police have arrested six persons, including two women, for abducting and extorting Rs 10 lakh from a realtor in Byatarayanapura.

The suspects include Jayanthi K (28), a resident of Bank Colony in Byatarayanapura, Rukmini U (37) of Konanakunte Cross, N Manjunath (32), Mahadev (27), both from Kengeri, Mahesh (24) of Nayandahalli and Swamy (27) of Nithyanandnagar.

They had abducted Gangadhar (40), a realtor from Kasturbanagar on March 17 and had extorted money and ornaments from him, said the police.

Manjunath, the prime suspect, was involved in a murder case in Hulimavu in 2008. He had borrowed money from various sources and was unable to repay them. Before moving to Kumbalgod, he was staying at Kasturbanagar, where Gangadhar lives and knew his background.

“Manjunath plotted Gangadhar’s abduction to tide over his financial difficulties and contacted five others seeking their help in the abduction,” DCP (West) M N Anucheth told DH.

On Manjunath’s instructions, Jayanthi called up Gangadhar about a month ago and introduced herself as a call girl.

She invited Gangadhar to spend time with her. She again called him up about two weeks ago and claimed that her friend Rukmini too wanted to be with him. She asked him to meet her near Tunga bar at Avalahalli.

Gangadhar went there on March 17 around 2 pm. Jayanthi and Rukmini got into his car and guided him to Manjunath’s house at Kumbalgod. The suspects locked him up inside the house and demanded money.

Gangadhar called up his friend Rajanna and asked him to arrange for Rs 10 lakh for a real estate business. On his request, Rajanna arranged the money and handed it over to the suspects, added the police.

Gangadhar was thrashed for two days and was set free on March 18 evening. The police registered a case based on his complaint and started looking for suspects.

The police arrested Jayanthi and Rukmini on March 27 and recovered Rs 5,000 from them.
Based on their inputs, police picked up four others on Friday night from Challaghatta. A car and Rs 1.45 lakh cash and gold ornaments were seized.
