JOIN US Prof Dr Subramani Ramakrishnan on Saturday said learning from successful peers holds the future to develop entrepreneurship skils.
Speaking at the release of ‘Shape IT,’ a book he has co-authored with Vaijayanthi Srinivasraghavan, Prof Ramakrishnan said, “Entrepreneurship skills assume significance to cater to the working population that is expected to touch 63% by the year 2020. In view of the future, it’s time to tap on the talents on the campus by documenting their success stories to motivate their cronies.”
Drawing an analogy between the successful persons of yore like Infosys founder N R Narayanamurthy, Reliance Industries founder Dhirubhai Ambani and the new breeds, he said the conditions when the former achieved success is vastly different than those on the same path nowadays. Hence, the successful students on the campuses are identified to enable their friends to derive inspiration from them, he noted.
Co-author Vaijayanthi said the title of the book denotes the meaning of self-learning (S), hands on (H), application (A), problem solving methods (P) and entrepreneurship skills (E) towards individual transformation (IT) - Shape IT.
M V Subramanian, co-fou-nder and MD of Future Focus Infotech Limited, urged students not to hestitate from drawing inspiration from others.
“It was only after watching the runaway hit film ‘3 Idiots’ did I learn not to chase the success, let the success chase you. One has to be competent enough to make a differencem,” he said.
Sahyadri Chairman H Manjunath Bhandary said the institution believes in the motto of producing job givers rather than job seekers. It is with the same zeal, the institution has been encouraging students to take part in competitions irrespective of winning or losing in them, he said.
Success saga
The book is a compilation of 50 success stories of budding engineers from different institutions across the country.
Among them 13 are from Sahyadri, including Mohammed Anwar, the brain behind ‘Challengers’, the dedicated team into aeremodelling on campus, Hands-on lab, John Nikhil Poyyayial who developed ‘Octocopter’, Pooja for ‘Learning Integrated Internship Program’, Ashwitha Jathan for building a low-cost chimney for neighbourhood village, Rohit Choudhary who developed ‘3D Printing’, Shrajan Bhandary for developing ‘Dream Kit’, Sachin Ganesh, Johnson Tellis for start-up, Akshay R Bhandary, Prathishta Tejpal Puthran of ‘Formula Sahyadri’ and Rishab Rao and Abhishek Jathan, both school-going students working in the start-up at Sahyadri.
