BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said, Congress candidate from Gundlupet constituency M C Mohanakumari (Geetha Mahadev Prasad), at the behest of Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, is hatching a conspiracy to damage his reputation by levelling false allegations against him and shedding tears to attract sympathy of the people.

He was speaking after inaugurating a women’s convention, organised by the BJP as part of election campaign, at Harave village in Gundlupet taluk on Friday.

Commenting on the recent allegations of Geetha Mahadev Prasad that he had cheated her by fielding a BJP candidate in Gundlupet after assuring her that she would be elected unopposed, Yeddyurappa clarified, “I had gone to Halahalli to offer my condolences after the sudden demise of minister H S Mahadev Prasad.  Shobha Karandlaje, V Somanna and C S Niranjan Kumar too accompanied me. Moreover, I am not a person to speak politics at a place of mourning. I had not given any such assurance to Geetha Mahadev Prasad that she would be elected unopposed,” he said.

“Geetha Mahadev Prasad is trying to divert the attention of the people by telling lies. Let goddess Chamundeshwari take care of truth and lies,” he said.

The former chief minister said, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader has distributed money to voters and it has been reported by the media. “The state is facing its worst drought. It is unfortunate that the ministers, who are supposed to focus on tackling drought are busy canvassing in Nanjangud and Gundlupet constituencies,” he criticised.
