Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was given a warm reception at his home town of Gorakhpur on Saturday, during his first visit after taking charge of the state. Adityanath reiterated his government’s commitment to implement the rule of law across the state without any discrimination.

He also said he was getting a positive feedback on the government’s ‘Anti-Romeo Squads’. “I have been receiving calls from mothers and sisters. They now feel safe,” he said, adding that the police, however, had been directed not to harass common people. The crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses will continue, the chief minister said.

The people of the town felicitated Adityanath upon his arrival in the afternoon. He held a roadshow to greet people, who lined up in large numbers on both sides of the road. The Gorakhnath Temple, where he is the ‘mahant’ (religious head), was decked up for his visit and a large number of people, including devotees and saints, cheered for their ‘yogi’ as he reached the temple complex. Adityanath paid obeisance at the temple and also performed a puja.
