Maharani's principal denies profs charge

Last Updated 23 March 2017, 20:30 IST

The authorities of Maharani’s College of Arts have said that they were willing to submit a copy of the complaint to Prof Dr Ramalingappa T Beguru, but he did not collect it.

Ramachandrappa, a former associate professor of Kannada of the college against whom there were charges of sexual harassment, had claimed on Wednesday that he had not been given a copy of the complaint.

Denying the charges, college principal Shantha Kumari said that he went on leave soon after the incident was reported due to which he could not be handed over the complaint copy. “He was organising an event at the college. We informed him about an allegation of this sort. He went on casual leave after that,” she said.

The principal, however, refused to comment on charges that he was being targeted because of professional jealousy.

Manjushri N, CEO, Bengaluru Urban Zilla Panchayat who has to look into the matter, is yet to visit the college. It may be recalled that there were complaints by five other students that six lecturers of the college had sexually harassed them.
