A National Investigation Agency special court on Thursday granted conditional bail to former RSS activists Swami Aseemanand and co-accused Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar alias Bharat Bhai in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case.

The bail order comes a week after Assemanand was acquitted of all charges in the Ajmer dargah blast case.  Aseemanand was also a co-accused in the Samjhauta blast case.

According to Aseemanand’s legal counsel, he can now walk out free from the Chanchalguda jail as he was acquitted in the Ajmer blast case and had obtained bail in the Samjhauta case. The accused will be released after furnishing two sureties and Rs 50,000 each as security. The court directed them not to leave Hyderabad without its permission.

The bombing occurred on May 18, 2007, inside the Mecca Masjid located in the walled city of Hyderabad, in which nine people died and several others were injured. According to NIA, the blast was caused by a cellphone-triggered pipe bomb, kept under a marble bench near the wuzukhana — a spot where ablutions are performed.
