The HAL police on Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old security guard who was on the run after sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl at a construction site in southeastern Bengaluru. The incident occurred on March 20.

The arrested Rajendra is a native of Odisha.  On March 20 around 4.30 pm, Rajendra lured the victim to his makeshift shed by offering her a toffee, where he sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light after the girl complained of stomach ache to her parents. After speaking to their daughter at length, the parents realised that Rajendra had sexually assaulted her.

The father of the victim and his neighbours caught hold of Rajendra and thrashed him. They also called the police. However, Rajendra escaped by the time the police arrived. The HAL police registered a case and formed a team to nab him.

The team searched the makeshift shed of Rajendra, where they found his mobile phone. They called all his contacts and gathered information about his whereabouts. The police also spoke to the security agency for which Rajendra worked. Based on a tip-off, he was arrested on Wednesday.

During interrogation, Rajendra claimed that his father is a retired police constable. “We are verifying his claim,” a senior police officer said.
