CM, KPCC chief plan strategy for byelections with ministers

Last Updated 20 March 2017, 19:57 IST
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara on Monday held a meeting with all ministers on drawing up a strategy for the upcoming byelections Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly constituencies.

Sources in the party said the leaders discussed responsibilities to be assigned to ministers in the byelections. Winning the byelections is a prestige issue for the chief minister as both the constituencies are located close to his home district Mysuru. For Parameshwara, who is trying to remain state Congress president till the Assembly elections next year, ensuring the party’s victory is important.

Speaking after the meeting, Parameshwara said two senior ministers will be made incharge of each of the constituencies. Other ministers will be given the responsibility of overseeing the party campaign in both the constituencies. KPCC office bearers and heads of KPCC frontal organisations will also be involved, he added.

The meeting was held at KPCC office on Queen’s Road. Geetha Mahadeva Prasad is the party candidate in Gudlupet, while Kalale Keshavamurthy is the Congress candidate from Nanjangud. A list of 40 star campaigners has been prepared and it includes Rebel Star Ambareesh. The party will set up its camp offices at several places in both the constituencies.
