JOIN USThe Indian Army rescued 127 people, including five foreigners, trapped in a blizzard at the historic Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh. The natural calamity, however, killed one Bulgarian woman.
On Saturday, around 2.45 pm, a massive snow storm struck Arunachal Pradesh between Ahirgarh, Sela and Nuranang on the road from Tezpur to Tawang in West Kameng district. Once the reports of people stuck in the blizzard emerged, the local army unit swung into action.
Within half an hour, a team from army’s 71 Division launched the rescue operation. With darkness setting in by 5 pm, the entire operation was almost conducted in the dark and continued till all 127 transients, including five nationals from Japan, New Zealand and ,Bulgaria were rescued, said an official from army’s Eastern Command in Kolkata.
“One Bulgarian national slipped and fell down the steep gorge while she was trying to move on her own. Her mortal remains were recovered at around midnight,” he added.
All rescued persons are now at an army transit camp and were provided with medical assistance.
