A 32-year-old man is suspected to have been murdered by his neighbours over a trivial issue in Kalasipalyam, west Bengaluru, on Tuesday night.

Silambarasan Mayavan was beaten to death by three of his neighbours whom the police identified as Kulla alias Varadaraju, Seena and Indu. Seena has gone into hiding, police said.

It all started when people living in two adjacent houses in the Vinobhanagar slum quarrelled over keeping a water drum near the flight of steps of a house. Varadaraju picked an argument with Silambarasan’s sister.

When Silambarasan tried to intervene, Indu and Seena arrived and took him on. The fight escalated to a level where Silambarasan was beaten to death. The Kalasipalyam police have registered a case of murder.

Child drowns in sump
A one-and-a-half-year old boy, who was left unattended, drowned in a sump at Konanakunte on Wednesday.

The deceased, Varun, was the only son of couple Vasanth and Pavithra, private company employees, the police said. According to the police, the couple would leave Varun with a woman, identified as Prema, in the neighbourhood.

On Wednesday, the couple asked a neighbour to take Varun to Prema’s house. The youth, however, left Varun at the gates of Prema’s house, but failed to inform her. Later, Prema called Pavithra to find out why she didn’t leave her child. Distraught, the parents returned home and started searching for Varun along with Prema. Around 3 pm, they found that Varun had drowned in the sump.

A case of unnatural death has been registered.
