The Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB) has been adjudged the ‘Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia’ by air travellers at theSKYTRAX World Airport Awards held in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

As Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) put it, the SKYTRAX Awards platform is the largest passenger satisfaction assessment among all the surveys measuring airport service excellence and quality.

The awards are based on 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires that were completed by 105 different nationalities of air travellers during the survey period. The survey operated from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports worldwide.

Traveller experiences were evaluated across 39 key performance indicators. These included end-to-end traveller experience from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.

Regional airports refer to the airports operating short international and domestic flights, rather than having a vast intercontinental network. KIAB was previously recognised as the Best Airport in India by SKYTRAX in 2011 and Best Regional Airport in Central Asia in 2015.
KIAB is the busiest airport in South India and third largest in the country. It caters to over 22 million passengers annually and is growing at the rate of 22.5% year-on-year basis.
