Padmavati set vandalised in Kolhapur

The sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial  period drama Padmavati was set on fire by unidentified persons in Kolhapur district on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Masai plateau at Panhala in the Kolhapur district of western Maharashtra between 1 and 2 am. Shooting at the Masai location had started on March 6, following the January 27 incident at Jaipur when Bhansali was manhandled.

The film, which is still in the floors, is scheduled for November 2017 release.

About 30 to 40 people barged into the sets of the film armed with petrol bombs, stones and lathis. They had a scuffle with the bodyguards and bouncers who were present at the sets.

Costumes and art work were damaged in the fire. However, there were no injuries to anyone. Some horses to be used in the shootings were also kept at the shooting site.
Since the Fire brigade could not reach the disaster site quickly, nearby villagers helped douse the flames and moved the people and animals on the sets — mostly horses — to safety avoiding casualties, locals said.

So far, Bhansali and his production team have not lodged any complaint with the police.
The security was reviewed by the Superintendent of Police of Kolhapur and Inspector General of Police of Kolhapur Range. They also met Bhansali and requested him to register a complaint.
