MCC zonal office to open in Surathkal today

Finally, the first zonal office of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will start functioning from Surathkal.

As per the Cadre and Recruitment rules for staff of the city corporations, which came into effect in 2011-12, the corporations have formed three zones for better administration.

The zonal office of Surathkal would be inaugurated at 10.30 am on March 6. Surathkal (West), Surathkal (East), Katipalla (West), Katipalla-Krishnapura, Katipalla (North), Idya (East), Idya (West), Hosabettu, Kulia, Baikampady, Panambur and Bengre will come under zonal office 1 at Surathkal. In fact, the Council of the city corporation had approved creation of three zones in its meeting on September 26, 2016.

Each zonal office will be headed by a zonal commissioner. The commissioner would be assisted by a development officer (assistant executive engineer–civil), a revenue officer and an assistant revenue officer, an environment engineer, four assistant engineers for civil, electrical, water supply, underground drainage works and supporting staff. The zone II and zone III would come up in MCC building itself.

Speaking to DH, Mayor Harinath said the zone II and III will also be inaugurated shortly. The work on setting the zonal office II and III at MCC is in progress. The Kadri sub-office of the corporation at Mallikatta would be closed down and shifted to the head office at Lalbagh to be part of Zone III Kadri office.

On the services available at the zonal offices, Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that till three zonal officers are appointed, the development officers will act as in-charge zonal officers. The zonal offices will distribute birth and death certificates within the time frame, issue license, completion certificates for the residential complexes that are within 500 square meter area, issue of notices to violators under violation of KMC Act 1976 Section 321 (1), (2) and (3). The zonal office will also register/transfer of the khata of the property whose value is upto Rs 50 lakh, issue door number to building that are within 1,500 square feet and initiate measures to remove of illegal flex, hoardings and issue trade licenses to units that are 200 square feet area and renew trade licenses among others.
