MLA's gunman likely to face enquiry for losing service pistol

The police are likely to initiate departmental enquiry against a City Armed Reserve (CAR) constable for losing service pistol issued to him by the department.

Narasimha Murthy (46), the constable and the gunman to JD(S) MLA Pilla Munishamappa, turned up at the Yelahanka police station on Saturday and lodged a complaint that somebody has stolen his pistol four days ago.

“Murthy did not give a convincing reply regarding the delay in filing the complaint. He may have lost the weapon months ago. Hence, we have written a letter to CAR top brass seeking information about Murthy’s antecedents. We have also recommended action against Murthy for his negligence,” said a senior police officer.

The police suspected that Murthy woke up after the theft of a 9 mm pistol and carbine machinegun by a CAR head constable Purushottam Rao became public recently. Murthy concluded that he could land in trouble and hence, he might have decided to a lodge a complaint.

In the complaint, Murthy said that there was huge rush of local residents near the MLA’s residence when former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had visited the residence after Munishamappa tendered resignation. Someone from the crowd could have stolen the pistol.

Murthy also stated that he had accompanied Deve Gowda to his residence when he left Yelahanka. Many people had gathered near Gowda’s residence and that someone may have lifted his service pistol.
