District Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa on Sunday laid the foundation stones for two Grade-III police stations at Megalapur in the taluk. The new buildings will come up at Megalapur in Varuna hobli in Mysuru taluk and Biligere in Nanjangud taluk.

On the occasion, MP R Dhruvanarayan said that law and order in the state was well under control but the severity of punishment for crime needed to be increased as it was shocking to note how, in many instances, culprits escaped severe retribution.

The new police stations will be built at a cost of Rs 1.08 crore and the construction works would be completed within 10 months. The multi-storey buildings will have separate rooms for station in-charge — Sub-Inspector, wireless, computer and document section and different cells for men and women offenders, and toilets.

As per reports of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), crime rates against Dalits and women are high in Rajasthan followed by Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The MP suggested that police officers maintain law and order in an effective manner.

Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana, member Bhagya, TP member Anjali Somanna, IGP (Southern range) Vipul Kumar, SP Ravi D Channannavar, Addl SP Kala Krishnaswamy and others were also present.
