Police are hunting for a disgruntled current or former employee(s) of a private firm on Richmond Road who created fake e-mail ID and Facebook accounts in the name of a senior manager and sent objectionable goods/e-mails to women employees.

The Ashoknagar police have registered a case under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) against the unidentified person based on a complaint by Guruprasad K, the senior manager at iMedX Information Service Pvt Ltd. They have sought the help of cybercrime police to crack the case.

It all began around three months ago when at least 10 women employees received objectionable messages and pictures from a Gmail account in Guruprasad’s name, asking them to “join for a night out”, police said. Days later, some of them received parcels from an online shopping portal at the office, with a cash-on-delivery option. They were shocked to see exotic lingerie, condoms, panties and other sexually-oriented products in the parcels. The horror didn’t end there. The women’s pictures and phone numbers were even listed on pornography websites, along with their “rates”. Clients were encouraged to contact them directly.

The women filed a complaint with the management against Guruprasad. But it later emerged that he was innocent and that someone else was behind the devious plan aimed at putting him in trouble.

Police suspect it to be an inside job since the suspect(s) had access to women’s personal information. The suspect(s) may be a disgruntled current or former employee, they say.
