Truecaller opens Bengaluru development centre

Truecaller, an app which is used by millions  across the globe to identify incoming calls, has commenced its development centre operations in Bengaluru, with an aim to focus on its expanding India business.

In an interaction with DH,  Truecaller co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Nami Zarringhalam said India is a growth centre for the company. “India is the largest market for us, and will continue to be so. Our new development centre, the only one outside our headquarters in Stockholm, helps us understand the local ecosystem better and develop products for India,” he said.

Zarringhalam said India Development Centre will be headed by Narayan Babu, and it is located on the Outer Ring Road. “We are looking at a large recruitment drive to meet the demand. At present, we have half a dozen members, and will ramp up to around 25 soon,” he said.

The Truecaller founder said India has a vibrant ecosystem of mobile phones and Internet penetration. “Besides demonetisation, mobile manufacturers’ decision for local assembling has pushed down prices. The new centre will help us create great products here,” he said.

The Swedish company recently announced the launch of TrueSDK, which enables registered third party apps to easily onboard users with their Truecaller profile and verified phone number.

“We are finding good traction for this, as we have on-boarded big app players to offer sign up, update users’ information, or purely verify users’ phone numbers based identity in their mobile apps through user consent,” he said.

Started in 2009 by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam in Stockholm, Truecaller has 80 employees from nearly 40 nationalities. The Truecaller  has presence in San Francisco and Gurugram.
