Tamil Nadu ex-ministers disallowed from meeting Sasikala

Last Updated 21 February 2017, 19:45 IST

Three former ministers of the Tamil Nadu government were denied permission to meet AIADMK general secretary Sasikala Natarajan at the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, on Tuesday.

Prison authorities denied permission citing rules that restrict visits to a convict to twice a week. “Visitors can meet Sasikala twice a week as per the rules. A little discretion is given to the chief superintendent of the prison regarding the duration of the meeting. Visitors can meet her for about 15 minutes,” DGP (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao told DH. “There is no request from Sasikala for transfering her to a prison in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

‘Cyanide’ Mallika shifted

K D Kempamma (52), better known as ‘Cyanide’ Mallika, India’s first serial killer, who was lodged in a cell next to Sasikala’s, has been moved back to the Belagavi Central Jail, Hindalga.

Mallika, who was arrested on January 8, 2008, for poisoning six women to death with cyanide, was moved from Belagavi to Bengaluru around three months ago for treatment. Prison authorities decided to shift her back to Hindalga as she has recovered.
