The third additional district and sessions court on Monday, directed Sunil Bose, son of PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, an accused in a bribery case related to illegal sand extraction and transportation case, to appear in person on February 27.

It was alleged that Bose and his friend Raju had forced a geologist of the Mines and Geology department, Alphonsus, to receive a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The Lokayukta police had trapped Alphonsus on March 27, 2010, when he was receiving  bribe from a lorry owner. He had confessed to the crime during interrogation that he was forced to take the bribe by the duo.

Earlier, Bose’s name was dropped from the charge sheet filed by the Lokayukta. However, one Basavaraju of T Narasipur, Dr Mahadevappa’s Assembly constituency, had filed a petition before the court, questioning this. So, later, Bose was considered as an accused.
