JOIN USIndia’s airlines have started on a positive note this year with January recording an over 25% rise in the number of fliers, compared with the same month, last year.
The data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed that domestic operators flew 95.79 lakh people in the first month of 2017, against 76.55 lakh in January, last year. This is a growth of 25.13%.
Except for Trujet and Air Carnival, all the other nine airlines which operated flights had a seat occupancy of over 80%. SpiceJet topped the list with 93.6% seat occupancy, followed by GoAir (90.8%), and IndiGo (90%). Air India had 81.4% seat occupancy, while Jet Airways had 86.1%, and its low-cost subsidiary JetLite recorded 85.4%.
IndiGo continued to be the leader cornering a market share of 39.8% carrying 38.09 lakh passengers. Jet Airways and JetLite together garnered 18% of the market, while SpiceJet has 12.8%, and Air India 14.1%. The overall cancellation rate of airlines for has been 1.10% with Trujet (4.17%) and Air India (1.97%) topping the list.
During January, a total of 877 passenger-related complaints were received by airlines. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of January 2017 has been 0.9.
