NEET must for Ayush admissions

Last Updated 18 February 2017, 19:45 IST
The Ministry of Ayush has said that in order to bring meritorious students to Ayush systems, all undergraduate seats for Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy) would be filled through the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Thus, private exams would not be conducted to fill seats for any of the Ayush colleges. A total of 3,890 seats are being made available in over 70 Ayush colleges across the state this time. The ministry of Ayush has written to the state government to comply with these orders and ensure students for Ayush colleges are admitted under NEET only. Also, there will be no provision for management or NRI quota.

When the Ayush ministry had sought an opinion from all states in December 2016 to conduct NEET for Ayush, Karnataka had submitted a positive response to it.

Online application software

After much delay, the Department of Public Instruction on Saturday threw open the test version of the online application software. Parents can access the software on the Department of Public Instruction website. Last week, parents had expressed anxiety as there was a delay in the process.

The department had initially said that the application would be thrown open 15 days ago.  The department had issued a notification on December 12 calling for applications on their website from January 15 to February 15, along with instructions and rules. However, no link was provided even when another notification was issued changing the date to January 20.
