There is lush green space amid chaotic traffic at Horamavu junction in eastern Bengaluru.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Thursday opened the Banaswadi Boulevard Park on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Developed on the lines of Lakshman Rau Boulevard Park in Jayanagar, the boulevard park has 30 species of plants, mostly flowering trees, and a 2.8 km-long walkway. Mooted in March 2016, the project cost Rs 1 crore.

Omprakash K, assistant director (Horticulture), BDA, said it was the first boulevard park opened by the agency. “We expect around 2,000 people to use the park daily as it is close to residential localities such as HRBR Layout and Horamavu.”

The park has benches, two gazebos, sufficient lighting and is set to get surveillance cameras. The BDA plans to set up an artwork in the park to raise awareness on rainwater harvesting.

Bengaluru Development Minister K J George who inaugurated the park asked the BDA to maintain it well. The BDA has planned to open a similar boulevard park in Visvesvaraya Layout soon, Omprakash said.
