Florian Fuchs’ field goal in the dying seconds helped Dabang Mumbai beat Delhi Waveriders 3-2 in a Hockey India League fixture at the Shivaji Stadium on Wednesday.

The hosts were leading 2-1, thanks to a field goal by Mandeep Singh (44th minute) in the third quarter, before Fuch’s (60th) timely strike left them with sore hearts.

Earlier, the two sides played out a measured first half. Waveriders were at their attacking best but their inability to convert penalty corners continued to haunt them as they squandered a couple of chances in the second quarter.

Kieran Govers was quick to convert a penalty corner in the 24th minute and ensured Mumbai led 1-0 at the interval.

Waveriders fought back with a field goal after the restart. Mandeep sounded the board with a firm reverse hit as the Waveriders got their noses in front at 2-1, going into the the final quarter.

The home side got another penalty corner in the final quarter, but failed to convert it yet again and Mumbai, who have earned the reputation of scoring at the last minutes, lived upto it.

With a mere 24 seconds left for the final buzzer, Fuchs nailed his shot into the right corner from the front of goal to seal the victory for his team.
