JOIN USThe Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed the single bench order which had directed private schools, claiming to be linguistic minorities, to reserve 25% seats under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2017-2018.
The petitioners, National Academy for Learning Trust, National Public School, New Horizon School and others have approached the court challenging the single bench order which had directed them to reserve 25% seats and admit an additional 10% of students under RTE Act. The petitioners had contended that the state legislature had no power to declare the status of minority educational institutions and that it was against the fundamental right under Article 30 of the Constitution of India.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal granted stay on the single bench order and ordered notice to the state government.
61 more ‘G’ site allottees can build houses
The high court has permitted 61 more allottees of ‘G’ category sites to go ahead with construction of houses, after the Justice A M Farooq committee submitted its third report.
Hearing the PIL against the irregularities in the allotment of sites, Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal directed Bangalore Development Authority to execute the sale deed in favour of the allottees within one month, for sites whose execution of lease-cum-sale agreement has completed 10 years.
The report found 61 allottees entitled to retain their sites.
