New system to help transport corporations plug fund leakage

Last Updated 11 February 2017, 20:48 IST
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and three other state transport corporations will soon switch over to automated-fuel system that could end leakage of funds through misappropriation of accounts.

The new system will be implemented in 212 depots used by KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, NEKRTC. The four corporations together spend Rs 3,000 crore per year on high speed diesel (HSD).

KSRTC managing director Rajender Kumar Kataria said they expect the automated system to bring down expenses by at least 1%. It will help the four corporations to save at least Rs 30 crore a year, he added.

The system, provided by Bharat Petroleum, utilises the radio frequency electronic identification technology. The driver has to submit his identification card to the fuel pump operator. The system allows fuelling only after it verifies the identification cards of driver and the operator.

It will register the name of the driver, bus number, route and time. The data will be
uploaded to the server which can be monitored by the superiors.

The new system will also help authorities monitor the consumption of fuel and the stock in the depot's tank. “It will help optimise fuel consumption and improve mileage of vehicles through performance,” officials  said.

They said it also saves time spent on poring over files to calculate expenses. The divisional controllers will get complete data of fuel transactions and this will streamline the process of accounting, they added.
