Gritty CIL rally to hold ASC

Last Updated 07 February 2017, 19:21 IST

A spirited fightback from Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) helped them secure a 1-1 draw against Army Service Corps (ASC) in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Tuesday.

Forward Jotin Singh continued his fine form and opened the scoring for ASC with a scorcher in the 27th minute but CIL striker M Lokesh restored parity with a strike in the 71st minute, denting ASC’s all-win record so far.

ASC are now placed second on the table with seven points from three matches below Students Union with nine points from three games while CIL are fifth with four points from three games.

ASC started the game strongly and were in control for most of the first half while CIL, who were left chasing the ball, relied mostly on counter-attacks.

CIL had the first chance to score in the 18th minute when winger Diwakar, after making a good run down the left flank, pulled the ball back to Lokesh, whose effort from inside the box whizzed past the ASC post.

They were soon made to pay for their mistake as the in-form Jotin powered his effort into the top left corner of the CIL net after making a late run into the box and connecting with the ball sent in by ASC winger Deepak Singh.

CIL came out all guns blazing in the second half and were denied an equaliser in the 50th minute when ASC goalkeeper AK Balwanth came off the line to make a superb save from forward Vignesh’s shot.

However, CIL’s constant pressing yielded result when midfielder Stephen Raj K dribbled past his marker and floated in a low cross to Lokesh, who found himself with plenty of space to put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net past ’keeper Balwanth.

Earlier in the ‘A’ Division, Bangalore Independents drubbed Sri Gajanana 4-0.
D’Souza scored a brace (17th, 73rd minutes) while Zabi (52nd minute) and Kiran (76th minute) netted a goal each.
