Board exams deferred: colleges fear delay in PU admissions

The postponement of CBSE, ICSE and ISC board examinations has raised concern over delay in announcement of results and admission of these students to pre-university courses.

A top source from a PU college in Koramangala said that with the exams being postponed, the results could also be delayed leading to some complication.

“This problem is being faced every year. With the PU schedule not tallying with the CBSE and ICSE board results, students are left worrying. Even this time, we hope to consider these students based on their internal assesment scores,” added the source. 

Meanwhile, a CBSE student who spoke to DH on condition of anonymity said that delayed results could lead to a lot of panic. “We have seen our seniors suffer as the state board students finish their admission process much before us. This time around, we are only hopeful that the PU department plans the schedule bearing in mind the postponement of exams,” she added.

Dr Ashwini, principal, Mount Carmel College, said that postponement of exams could lead to delayed admission. “By the time the results are announced, we would have finished displaying our first list as we go by the PU schedule. We have no quota for CBSE or ICSE students. It is only on merit that they are taken,” she added.

Dr L Ramu, Principal, MES PU College, Malleswaram said that this would not affect the college reopening schedule. “Our PU classes reopen on June 15. We hope that the results will be out by this time. Since there is reservation for these students, it would not affect the admission schedule,” he added.

The CBSE, ICSE and ISC board exams have been postponed following the announcement of Assembly elections in Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
