JOIN USMayor G Padmavathi on Thursday directed contractors executing work on Okalipuram eight-lane corridor to complete at least four lanes by March-end for the convenience of commuters.
The mayor’s direction came during her inspection project site following people’s request to speed up work as the delay was causing an inconvenience. The BBMP has set a deadline of July to finish the work. The corridor will benefit residents of Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Vijayanagar and Nagarabhavi.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike will procure a new Innova Crysta for Mayor G Padmavathi after her vehicle suffered frequent breakdowns. The Palike’s standing committee on taxation and finance has given its approval for the purchase. However, soon after the decision, chairpersons of standing committees too demanded new vehicles.
The committee turned down their demand, saying the mayor’s car needed replacement since it broke down frequently. It has covered more than three lakh km. Buying new cars would be an additional financial burden on the Palike exchequer, the committee observed.
