National Youth Day celebrated

The city celebrated National Youth Day to mark the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Thursday.

As part of the celebration, National Youth Week and Youth Day was organised at Nehru Yuva Kendra.

University of Mysore (UoM) Student Welfare director M Rudraiah inaugurated the event. A booklet about Swami Vivekananda brought out by the department of Information and Public Relations was also released on the occasion.

Social activist Varkodu Prakash, Talakaveri Education Institution head Nalini Thammaiah and Jnana Yogananda Swami of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama were also present. Various organisations organised celebrations to mark Viveka Jayanti. BJP leader S A Ramdas garlanded the statue of Vivekananda at Vivekananda Circle in Vivekananda Nagar at a function organised by Yuva Bharat Sanghatane. ‘Vivekaratna Sri-2017’ award was conferred on five people for their achievement in different fields.

Students of Viveka Vidyalaya in Srirampura took out a rally to mark the day and students distributed booklets about Vivekananda during the rally.
