Gowrishankar Swami no more

Gowrishankar Swami, pontiff of the Jangama Mutt at Gollahalli in Gubbi taluk of the district, died of  heart attack at a hospital in Bengaluru in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The mortal remains of the seer were taken to Seethakallu in Tumakuru taluk, his native place, for burial.

Police were deployed at the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru after seer Shivakumara Swami and administrative officer Vishwanathaiah, in a press release, said that the deceased pontiff’s body should not be brought to the Siddaganga Mutt.

Gowrishankar Swami was named as the successor of Shivakumara Swami in 1975, but was expelled from the Mutt in 1988 due to a dispute. A case in this regard is pending in the court.
