JOIN USMore than a month after J Jayalalithaa’s death, Apollo Hospitals on Monday informed the Madras High Court that it is ready to provide details of the treatment provided to the former chief minister.
Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice S Sundar were hearing a petition, filed by one Joseph, seeking investigation into the treatment administered to Jayalalithaa. Counsel for Apollo Hospitals said all the details with regard to the medical aid will be handed over to the court in a sealed cover.
The petitioner’s advocate also sought to know why and when the body was embalmed.
After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government and sought a reply in four weeks, and posted the case to February 23.
Expressing doubts over the mystery shrouding the sudden demise of Jayalalithaa, the court had on Thursday questioned why the body could not be exhumed.
Justices S Vaidyanathan and Parthiban had ordered notices to the Central and state governments and the prime minister’s office for not disclosing any information with regard to Jayalalithaa’s death.
There were speculations and rumours about Jayalalithaa’s condition since she was admitted to hospital on September 22 following fever and dehydration.
Following her death on December 5 due to a severe cardiac arrest, people expressed doubts as hospital authorities had consistently maintained that they were ready to discharge her.
Meanwhile, the Union home ministry has forwarded a letter submitted by expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa, seeking a probe into the circumstances leading to the death of the former chief minister, to the Department of Personnel and Training, which is the administrative authority of the CBI.
