Karnataka win overall title

 Karnataka claimed the overall title at the 29th South-zone Aquatic Championship here at the Suvarna JNMC swimming pool here on Sunday.The hosts totaled 1348 points, which included 11 new meet records.

It was no surprise that it were the State swimmers who swept the individual awards too. In the boys section, Pruthvik DS ( Group I, 33 pts), Prasidh Krishna PA and  Kushal P (Group II, 35 pts), Shoan Ganguly (Group III, 28 pts) and Amey B Patil (Group IV, 28 pts) were adjudged as the best swimmers. In the women’s category too, Jhanati Rajesh (Group I, 35 pts), Mayuri Lingaraj (Group II, 35 pts), Adya Nayak (Group III, 21 pts) and Srishti Satiswar (Group IV, 29 pts) were named the best.

On the final day, two new meet records were set. Taking the pool for the Group II, 4x200M freestyle relay, the Karnataka quartet of P  Kushal, KS Saif Chandan, Raj Vinayak Relekar and Aditya Bopanna won the gold in 8:45.60, a new meet rcord. They bettered pervious best of 4:54.56, set by Tamil Nadu in 2011.
