FM station opening, job fair to mark Vivekananda Jayanti

Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur, has planned various programmes to mark Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary on January 12 and 13.

Addressing reporters on here, Sangha president Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said, “Radio Panchajanya 90.8 FM station, a community radio set up on the campus, will be dedicated to the public on January 12. Union Minister of State for Commerce, Industries and Finance Nirmala Seetharaman will dedicate the station at 11 am. It is aimed at spreading the essence of nationalism on the basis of culture and tradition, besides education, sports, science, music, technology, literature, agriculture, Yakshagana, cattle rearing, theatre among other fields to the listeners from varied classes’.

A Viveka Udyoga Mela (job fair) has been organised on January 13 in association with Rooman Technology. More than 300 companies, including IT, real estate, banking, retail and other sectors will attend the mela. Prominent companies like Wipro, Infosys, Volvo, Flipkart, Ambuja Cement, Tech Mahindra, Saint Gobain, Yodly Software to name a few, will be looking for the right candidates.

The job fair, aimed at providing employment opportunities, has already received 10,000 entries. Spot entries will also be received. The fair has been planned in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Make in India’ to identify and encourage skills amongst people. Union Minister for Skill Development Rajiv Prathap Rudy will inaugurate the mela on the day at 10 am.

Bhat said that free vehicles to ferry job aspirants have been arranged from 33 different places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod in the neighbouring Kerala State. Those with BA, BSc and B Com degrees, ITI and diploma holders, engineering and MBA graduates are eligible to take part. Vivekananda Job information and Training Centre set up on the campus will be inaugurated along with the new building of Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology on the occasion. Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will inaugurate the new building.
