Barring a few petty quarrels, between women of the village in connection with the double murder of JD(S) workers on Sunday, Thopanahalli remained peaceful on Tuesday.

Police personnel, however, continued to camp in the village to prevent any untoward incident. Police said, Puttalingamma, mother of murder accused Kumar, along with a group of women, picked up a quarrel with Shwetha, wife of deceased Muthuraju, on Tuesday morning.

Puttalingamma, who visited Shwetha’s house, accused her of falsely implicating her son Kumar in the case. Puttalingamma claimed that Kumar was innocent and Shwetha had deliberately dragged his name in the murder case to settle old scores.

Police camping nearby rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Acting on a complaint lodged by Shwetha, police have taken Puttalingamma into custody. She was taken to the town police station for inquiry.

Four battalions of state and District Armed Reserve force and around 100 additional police personnel, led by DySP Mathew Thomas and PI K R Prasad, have been camping in the village to maintain law and order.
