Deadline for regularising houses on govt land extended

The state government has decided to extend the deadline for regularising residential properties built on government land in rural areas and on the periphery of urban areas, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa said on Friday.

Addressing journalists here, Thimmappa said the deadline for regularisation has been extended from the earlier date of December 20, 2016 to January 21, 2017. While more than 20 lakh applications have been received, the Revenue department has estimated that another 20 lakh applications seeking regularisation of residential properties on revenue land are likely to be submitted in the coming days, he added.The minister said the government has also decided to slash the penalty under regularisation in rural areas by 50%.

Earlier the penalty amount had been fixed at Rs 2,000 for 30x40 sqft houses, Rs 4,000 for 40x60 sqft houses and Rs 6,000 for 50x80 sqft houses.  With a 50% reduction, the penalty amount now stands at Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively for the above mentioned dimensions.

The Revenue department is yet to take a decision on reducing the penalty to be paid by people in urban areas.
