Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia will spearhead the campaign of revamped Delhi franchise of Pro Wrestling League, (PWL), Delhi Sultans. The franchise unveiled its logo on Friday.

Sakshi has been named the captain of the team that also includes Mariya Stadnik, silver medalist 2016 Rio Olympics and Alina Makhiyna,  gold medalist 2013 Budapest world Championship. Kuldeep Malik is the coach of the team.

“I am extremely delighted to be a part of this team. We have some fantastic wrestlers who have achieved tremendous feats in their career. Delhi has given me a lot of love whenever I have trained in the city for big tournaments. I hope our team brings joy to the home crowd by putting up a good show in the second edition of the Pro Wrestling League,” she said.

“There is no pressure on me. I have started my training." Sakshi also pitched for more exposure to the wrestlers. “Before the Olympics, we went to Spain for a training camp and we got to practise with a lot of quality wrestlers. I believe for better performances we need more foreign exposure where we compete with the top wrestlers from other countries,” she said. “Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are obviously my main target. I have started training two months back and it’s been good so far. I don’t intend to change my weight category (58 kg),” said added the wrestler.

Delhi Sultans’ team owner Annurag Batra said: “We have a fantastic squad this time with some reputed names. Now it’s just about going out there and performing to our potential. With all the games happening in Delhi this time, we expect to have tremendous home support which will definitely help the wrestlers to perform at their best.”
