Kengal Hanumanthaiah Abhimani Balaga on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office on Queen’s Road, demanding that the party brass nominate former cricketer Sripad Renu to the Upper House of the legislature.

Renu is the grandson of former chief minister late Kengal Hanumanthaiah. Hundreds of his supporters from Ramanagaram, Mandya, Maddur, Bidadi and Channapatna gathered at the office and urged the party to nominate Renu, who is also a national-level golfer, as MLC under sports quota.

President of the Balaga J Mohan Kumar presented a memorandum to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George in this regard. George told them that he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief G Parameshwara.
