JOIN USThe management of Syngene International Limited (SIL) lodged a complaint with Hebbugodi police on Tuesday in connection with a fire mishap at its research facilities at Biocon Park on Monday night.
“We registered a case based on the complaint filed by the SIL management. The company is yet to inform us about the value of properties destroyed in the incident,” the police inspector said.
The police have written a letter to the Directorate of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health (FBISH) seeking an enquiry to ascertain the cause for the incident. The directorate is the competent authority to identity causes for fire mishaps on company and factory premises.
“A team from the FBISH will visit (the facility) to conduct an enquiry to identify the cause soon. The police will take action based on the report,” he said.
The fire alarm and Syngene’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) got into action to evacuate the building. The fire department was called in and the fire was brought under control. There was no injury or loss of life due to this incident, a press release from SIL said.
The research facility, including office and lab spaces, makes up approximately 10% of the company’s total infrastructure at Biocon Park.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to this lab facility is being assessed, the company said in a press release.
